The only "crying enough" is when you've cried all you can. And it doesn't always come all at once, and it isn't always much. It doesn't make you a bad unfeeling person if you can't cry.

I think the rationale was that Hyde had gotten more dominant of the personality over the years and the physical manifestation reflected that. No, it didn't satisfy me, either.
