"Daddy Played Piano; Played it Very Well..."

...Ah. I remember. I had a rant. Ought I still subject everyone to this rant? Can it be all that important if I've forgotten it 'til now?

Alas.

If I see another bloody Diana Wynne Jones book with "if you liked Harry Potter, try Diana Wynne Jones!" or similar nonsense written on the cover, I shall scream.

Diana Wynne Jones came years before JKRowling and is still writing, and for God's sake Rowling plagiarised borrowed from her right left and center. I think Diana is a much better writer, and far more interesting. I'm disheartened to see that she's been so horribly upstaged by the person who borrowed from her.

I simply wish she would get the recognition she deserves for being such a great writer, and not be reduced to having 'Waiting for the next Harry Potter book? Pass the time with [insert title here]' stamped on her lovely books.

I hereby apologise to anyone I may offend. *_*

I agree with you, especially since the publishing industry behaves like the world revolves around Harry potter.

I am only offended by how politely you have ranted ;-)

I completely agree with you. DWJ is fantastic, and has been writing books that are better than JKR's for more than 30 years. Drowned Ammet and Cart and Cwidder in particular are elegant little gems that cover most of the emotional territory of OoTP, except in a fraction of the pagecount, and much more movingly.

*Sigh* Not that I'm not looking forward to the PoA movie, which hasn't quite opened here yet.

A very understandable and justified rant :). Awfully polite too!

I whole-heartedly agree with you, although those tags on her books are merely for publicity, to get people to buy them, to get people to read them who wouldn't normally, people whose literary world revolves around Harry Potter. I don't suppose that it really means anything, but I do sympathize with you. =( ::snuggle::

I feel your pain.

It annoys me a bit how the Thursday Next books all have "Harry Potter for adults!" plastered all over them. I'm abstaining from HP (I really don't need another Huge Fandom that Ate the World like OMG), so it's rather irritating to think that I am, in fact, reading it, only for adults. ;-)

Number of books I own with "If you like Harry Potter, read this!" on the cover: six.
No, wait, make that five. "The Lost Years of Merlin" says, "Young sorcery fans...set aside Harry Potter and pick up Merlin." I am now officially in love with the Cincinatti Enquirer.
Nice rant, by the way.

I second the Motion, even though I have not read any of her books. (But I shall look into them.)

I hate it. I dislike the people who think that they could sell a couple of books by comparing works. People will not pick up a book no matter what if they are not interested in them. So why bother?

Dogsbody may be the most important book I ever read.
