"Il est foutu le temps de cathedrales..."

Another of my people has died.
This time it's Betty. She was the lady who always came to bingo, who was on oxygen but always very nice about it when the nurses wouldn't come and help no matter how many times I asked. She always said I was so pretty, and she loved it when I hugged her. She wanted me to come visit her, and I never had time, and I kept promising that I would as soon as I got time, but I never did. She had a pillow her daughter made for her with a photograph of her husband and her on it, and she showed it to everyone and wanted to make sure everyone got to see it. She used to volunteer with us.
This isn't like Harry, even though that sounds callous. I didn't really know Harry. I knew Betty.
Oh, I can't believe she's died. I knew that this was going to happen; I knew as soon as I started working at a nursing home I was going to lose people, but I can't believe I've lost her.
Her real name was Anna Mae, it said in the obituary. I didn't know that. Everybody called her Betty.
She was always so nice. She really did like me.
I'm sorry. I've only been home a day, and already I'm angsting on you all. I apologise.
