I KNOW. Eeeeeee, you'll have to tell me all about it!
... *facepalm* Ooooops.
Lise used to beg her husband (in a snarl that makes it not-really-begging) to stay home, to be sensible, not to run off all over the place with the crowd of soldiers and musketeers, not to leave her behind. It was pointless, and now she's given up on the endeavour. Besides, she'd much rather meet the sharp red-haired woman alone.
At first he's sure the girl must be afraid. That's simply how it is, that brave soldiers fight and little laundresses are afraid of fighting. But as he watches her, he sees that her face is set and her hands are ready, and his chest feels a funny twisted mixture as he realises that, really, he's the one who's afraid, and her bravery makes him ache.
I hope you do, too. and TELL ME EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. >:D
Cosette, sometimes, looking out the windows of her father's fiacre, wishes she could escape her garden with a basket of bread and give it to the people on the streets. There is one girl especially she sees every day, a laundress with red raw hands.
She mourns his loss in a way unusual to her, without theatrics; she simply takes every flower her admirers give her to his family's plot, and leaves them there.

They used to love each other in the spring. Now they work silently, or nearly so, as he hums and she snaps at him to quiet down.
