"Come and Sit Here Awhile Ere You Leave Us..."

Mama said to us last night, Why are you girls doing so much baking? Is this some kind of pre-Lenten binge?

And I said, No, these are individual expressions of joy.

And that's true.

The car--it can be fixed. The man said he could put it up to inspection standard, he said obviously it won't look very good, in fact it's likely to look wretched, but it'll pass inspection and we can go on driving it--a godsend, I'm truly telling you. And I'm quitting my job, giving my two weeks' notice on Thursday. I am so tired of feeling filthy from touching other people's money all day, just to sell them cigarettes and lottery tickets, just to inflate a corporate conglomerate that's been driving local gas stations and convenience stores out of business since it came. And I'm done--that's all, I'm done. So I'm quitting. And so's Mama quitting--she just submitted her resume half a dozen places that are closer to home (it's a seventy-five mile round trip for her to go to work these days).

Mama's not paying me back my savings that she had to borrow to finish paying for the house, but she's going to use the money that she would pay me back to fix the car, so that's perfectly fine. It makes good sense. And I can go to the library party in a few weeks, which I think will be really nice, and I'm making a hedgehog cake on Friday to celebrate--it's just a good thing.

I can bicycle down to the Oriental store every day if I want; I asked them if they needed anybody to work there, but they said not until summer, they said, 'we'll keep you in mind', which I think actually means 'go away', but that's fine. There are lots of places in Newport I am going to try and look at.

And now, since ostensibly I'm here to work on my history exam while Daddy's busy in Duncannon, I'm going to do that. Be a good girl, Soujin!

But I wanted you to know that things are coming even now, and it's a good thing.

I am so, so glad to hear you sounding upbeat in the face of many trials!

It's the Percy. He's my role model. ♥

OMG, I sooo nearly said that in my previous comment! It must be true.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Utterly true! ^_____^ I have always been Percy, I'm afraid, right up to the hick kid living in the woods part.

hmmmm, I wonder who that makes me.

I'd been leaning on Mordred, I think, except it leaves me so confused because in my head [livejournal.com profile] mhari is Mordred.

yes, I know! but I think that in the context of tempting you out of the wasteland of your childhood and off to Camelot I'm more of a Gwalchmei here.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooo, that's entirely possible. And not at all undesirable, considering how unadulteratedly awesome Gwalchmei is.

Fixable problems are very good things, especially big ones like cars!

Mad respect to you for quitting a job you feel bad for having ^_^

"we'll keep you in mind" can mean anything from "we really want you to come back" to "we're being polite, but if no one better comes along we'll take you." It's very hard to tell which area of the spectrum any particular instance of it is in. I'd wager you tend towards the better end, if there were bets to be placed.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I knowwww. Guh.

Well, I'm tired of it, that's all. I think when I'm unhappy going I shouldn't do it any more. And, unlike the last job I had that made me utterly miserable, I'm not going to pretend I need to stick it out because I owe something to my managers (cripes, that job was evil, and I should have stopped the second she started shouting at me, but I kept saying, no, I said I'd work the whole summer and I am).

I think it means go away in this instance. XD Which is okay, as there are lots of other places I want to look.

i just spent the last hour in the supermarket thinking, did I really say "the wasteland of your childhood"? she'll HATE me! Of course I only meant that in the literary sense. But one thought led to another and I came to the startling and obvious conclusion that in this particular scenario (the one that includes you as Percy and [livejournal.com profile] mhari as Mordred, I think I must be Arthur.

oh brother.

*loves on* I'm so glad the car can be fixed, and that you're going to stop Working For The Man, and that things are working out in ways that make sense. :)

And yay for quitting! >>

And! I got your package in the mail. :D So maybe I'll finally stop being lazy and silly and actually get to the freaking post office to send you yours. Which is significantly less exciting. Except those chocolate covered pretzels are, like, my mother's favorite food, so they may well vanish before I get any.
