I would rather have been almost anything
else waving unfutile arms
coral-coloured and immobile except that the sea
would move me
resplendent in the heart of my own reef and
well-supported
symbiotic and infiltrated by finer strains of
zooxanthellae
my body a haven
my dermic tissue the walls of a temple to God
my self holy.

I would rather have been almost anything
anemone
or any phylum not my own.
