"You Should See My Coattails Flying As I Swing My Partner 'Round..."

I don't know if it is possible to express with mere words how much I want this shirt. It's the kind of shirt I've been looking out for in shops for impossible ages. Look at the sleeves. How can you see those sleeves and not feel a wave of desire? And the ruffle is just perfect. Augh.

Also, here are likewise dresses.

*longs*

The Pirate's life for you, at least fashion-wise?

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-10 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, it's more of a hopelessly-obsessed-with-pretties life. Also, the Dumas-ness of the shirt fills me with longing. Those billow-sleeves belong in more than half of my fandoms, including LM and HH and probably a good part of the Jules Verne.

*is rambly late at night*

Speaking of Verne, I miss watching episodes of The Secret Life of Jules Verne.

Oooh, I hate you! What's it like?

[identity profile] sansenmage.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Two Evil Monks (http://www.twoevilmonks.org/sajv/episodes.htm) has episode summaries for the canceled series, in which Bracegirdle and Sawyer guest star in the first episode alone!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Waugh! I hate you I hate you!

[identity profile] sansenmage.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Are Jules and Phineas cute?

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[identity profile] zuhra.livejournal.com 2004-09-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. My. God. I have been looking for a shirt like that for over a year. Over one long, exruciatingly dry year. o_o It's BEAUTIFUL.

With a shirt like that, I could go to a costume party for almost any one of my fandoms (not that that ever happens...)! And next time I go as Combeferre for Halloween (although that probably won't happen again), I will actually be, like, historical! And maybe, if I'm really lucky, people won't think I'm Edgan Allen Poe!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
I told you! I said so!

Exactly! I could be--I could be Clerval! Does it not fill you with chagrin up to here? Ahhhh! *has frenzy of need and adoration for shirt*

*pause* They thought you were Edgar? Whyever? O_o

[identity profile] zuhra.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally don't know why those poeple all thought I was Edgar. It really made me sad. I was like, "Can't you tell I'm a fictional revolutionary from an 18th century French novel?!?! Hull-o!"

I'm totally nothing like Edgar. I didn't have one of those funny little mustaches like he did! I didn't have an incestuous relationship with any of my cousins! And I even said "Bonjour!" to everyone! Was Poe French? I think not!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Really! Annoying people! I've never figured out why they always go for the randomest assosiation.

Like when I was Davy Crockett for Hallowe'en, and everyone thought I was Daniel Boone. I mean--why?

Whatever. >_> *cuddles* I would have known who you were. I was Courfeyrac! We could have been Ami-ish together!

[identity profile] zuhra.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's so nice to find a fellow ami de l'ABC in the world! Yay!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
^_____^

[identity profile] snowyofthenight.livejournal.com 2004-09-10 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Coool. That truly is a very very nice shirt. I'm questing for knickers, though.

Are those sleeves truly in style for the LM period? I always thought they were more... close-fitting...

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
Mmph. Yes.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
I was under the impression, due to Chatterton, that the wide sleeves were appropriate. >_> Could be wrong, though, as jackets were also in fashion, and God knows it would be hard to get a jacket over sleeves that big.

[identity profile] snowyofthenight.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought, too. That was basically the period when it was the height of indecency to go out (if you were a man) without a jacket, so I don't think people cared too much about making their sleeves fancy. But I'm not positive.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, you're quite right. *pauses* Oh well. The fancy sleeves are cool, and as long as neither of us are positive, I'll go on with them. :)

[identity profile] ezraslaststand.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
I want knickers if you ever find any.

[identity profile] reincineir.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
*LUSTS after the dresses. LUSTS*

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't I say? Good God, I wish I had money.

[identity profile] and-i.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, they're beautiful! I saw a few shirts like that recently and wanted them so much! There are a couple of shops I know which just do lots of clothing like that and I keep going in and whining about a lack of money. They're all just so much more elegant (particularly velvet. Me loves my velvet clothes.)

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
They really are. It's the sleeves, mainly, I think--there's something in such sleeves that inspires love--but the ruffle helps a whole lot, too. Meh, the need for money is so thwarting. >_

[identity profile] mhari.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Aaaack. Gawjiss.

Actually, if you poke around thrift stores enough, you're likely to find good dress-up shirts for somewhat less than an arm and a leg. The dresses, alas, not so much.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yessss!

True, which is how I got the nice shirt I'm wearing right now. But the dresses, yes, are impossible. And now that I have seen them, I shall never rest easy again. *is weak*

[identity profile] rimusu.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ack, those dresses are all so gorgeous. *_*;

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
Aren't they just?!

[identity profile] jean-prouvaire.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
...Is it sad that I totally started planning my wedding just looking at the bridal dresses? (I'm torn between "The Renaissance" and "Pirate Princess," but I am so getting married in one of those dresses. Never mind that it won't happen for at least ten years.)

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2004-09-11 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, s'not sad. :) Actually, Waen and I were looking for wedding dresses when we found them. We've been writing down the links to sites with really good dresses that we have to remember if we get married. Sadly, most of them are in the UK.

(I prefer the "Pirate Princess", myself. ^_^ Another good site for Renaissance Wedding Dresses, though, is here (www.gothic-medieval-clothing.com/staticsite/medieval_wedding_dress.php).)

Sorry. >_> I left out the http:// part. It's here (http://www.gothic-medieval-clothing.com/staticsite/medieval_wedding_dress.php).
