"That I Would be Good Even if I Lost Sanity..."

Excitingly enough, we were robbed last night.

At church to-day, Shirley took one look at me and started pulling at my shirt and saying, "Oh, you need to cover up your bra straps!". She kept poking my shirt and trying to make it modest. It's a soft white tank top that goes under a much prettier crinkly white long-sleeved blouse that's meant to be worn open. Maybe I shouldn't wear it any more! This is the second time someone's commented that it's revealing.

(the first time, it was one of the librarians. There was a boy who had removed his shirt in the library, and I went back to let her know, and I said, "There's a boy who isn't wearing a shirt--". She said, "Neither are you," and looked at me pointedly. As I said! I should probably stick to wearing it at home, seeing as it elicits such a response.)

In any case, they took the CD players out of the cars, Mama's digital camera, and my car keys; as far as we can tell, nothing else. I remain glad we're moving--I assume the Mennonite neighbours won't do this.

At church to-day, Rog gave me a colouring book of anatomy, a college-level colouring book! XD I love it. I need to write him a very pretty thank-you note. Eheehee.

(This song in my subject line, I need to upload it; it always makes me cry. It's very--meaningful. To me. Amy gave it to me; Amy has this way of knowing what will touch me.)

Take a picture of it and show it to us. I bet it's not too revealing. :-)

You. XD Honestly. Maybe just for you I will do a gratuitous pickspam of SOUJIN: SHE LOOKS LIKE THIS.

[identity profile] la-mia-cara.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that would be lovely! :p

[identity profile] la-mia-cara.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not. I happen to like looking at pretty people. ^_^

Fine, you win. XD

Man, that sucks. I mean, I guess it's better than if they'd stolen anything of great personal/sentimental value, but still, car stereos and digital cameras... oy. That's awful.

On the other topic, apparently bra straps can be highly distracting! I had a similar experience at work the other day, when I was wearing a shirt that isn't, I don't think, revealing at all:

4th-grade girl: "Even your thing is black!"
Me: "What 'thing'?"
Girl: *pulls out her bra strap* "Your thing. I can see the strap."
Me: "Oh."
Girl: "You should cover it like this." *pulls her shirt up around her neck* "But don't choke yourself!"
Me: "I'm... not really all that worried about you guys accidentally seeing my bra straps."
Girl: *pulls hers out again* "Mine is pink!"
Another girl: "Mine's purple!"
Another girl: "So is mine!"
Me: "We need to get back to reading, you guys!"

I mean, jeez. It's just a bra strap!

It's pretty icky. We have to have a pleeceman over and everything. And of course it's expensive stuff, and we are really low on money right now.

*dies giggling* Awwww, silly kids! I know, but that's usually my opinion, too. Plus I'm the kind of person who usually wears ankle-length skirts and long shirts anyway--although maybe that's the problem, that people perceive me as being more "modest" and are surprised when they see me dressed normally? Maybe I'm overthinking this. XD

Are you a librarian at a school?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_grayswandir_/ 2007-10-01 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, when people have a certain perception of you, the littlest thing will freak them out. Eh. It certainly sucks that a guy can walk around completely shirtless, but a girl in spaghetti straps is ZOMG NAKED. I mean, what?

And no, alas, I'm still just a teaching-assistant for now. I work in the "Reading Lab," which is where they send all the 3rd-6th graders whose reading skills are not up to par. Which is most of them, since the majority of kids in this area grew up speaking Spanish. It's fun, though. We read stories about sharks and spiders and dinosaurs. :D

I know! That drives me crazy. Argh. Especially because the girl in spaghetti straps, nine times out of ten, is a lot more attractive than the man with no shirt. XD

Ohhh, that's so neat! That's really cool. ^________^

Oh my! I'm glad they didn't steal much, or do anything further than rob you!

Maybe you just shouldn't wear it out to "formal" places like the library and church? I don't think it would cause controversy at any restaurants or anything!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
So are we! But it's very unnerving.

Seems possible. ^^ Although the library is never what I've thought of as formal.

...is it just me, or is there no point in stealing car keys if you're not stealing the car they go with? That's just annoying. But less annoying than if they did take the car, of course. Anyway, *hugs!*

And someone in my head would like to second the request for pictures. ;)

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I found the keys. XD They apparently didn't steal them properly, just the other stuff. *loves*

You're all getting it, you ruffians.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Wicked. ♥

[identity profile] holyschist.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm confused--last I checked, spaghetti-strap tanktops were still considered acceptable clothing outside of Catholic high schools, and there is no way in hell those EVER cover bra straps (but what do I know? I think bras are torture devices and avoid wearing them. God knows how many people I've horrified by demonstrating that women do, in fact, have nipples).

...can you tell this sort of thing is a sore point for me?

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that was what I was wearing, I think. My bras are mostly sports bras, unfortunately, so they don't cover up well.

XD I only wear them because I have too much in the chestal region not to.

[identity profile] holyschist.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's silly, though--you can't cover anything with a strap 1/2" wide, unless you glue your shirt to your bra or something.

(I am still bitter about being told I wouldn't be cold if I didn't dress like a slut when I was wearing a--*gasp*--fitted t-shirt. I love not living in Focusville anymore.)

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I do like that mental imagine.

(...Dude. That's crazy.)
