"So I Came..."

The Last Temptation of Christ is the most homoerotic portrait of Jesus I have ever seen. Holy Jesus/Judas, Batman! (THEY MAKE OUT. I AM NOT KIDDING.)

And, uh, since I'm supposed to be actually watching it, here in class, I should probably get off the computer and focus. Oh, man, I'm already tired, though. It is so psychedelic and wild.

(Awww, Jesus' mother showed up at his crucifixion, even though he totally sucked and told her she wasn't his mother any more and made her cry. <3 Mary.)

(Also, blood does not really spurt that way. I happen to know it doesn't, I punctured my foot yesterday, and it drips and pools, so don't you start with me with all this SPLURT nonsense.)

Oh, lady. ;___; Take care of your foot, please!

[identity profile] the-chloroplast.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Heart, when you are older you are going to have so very many foot problems.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Am nooooot.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Dani said I had to go the nurse, so I did. :D It isn't my fault she wasn't in on Monday.

[identity profile] reconditarmonia.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
That is on my list of films to see. I looked it up on Wikipedia and it looks brilliant.

aaaah your feeeeeet!!!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It is--psychedelic. And very hard to understand in places. And it CHEATS. But.

[identity profile] julietveiled.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I have a feeling Corpus Christi might be more so. Jesus & Judas do more than make out. HO-YEAH.

[identity profile] julietveiled.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well-- not actually onstage, they don't do more than kiss onstage. But they're lovers (and not just inferring that, it's part of the actual play XD). Jesus is king of the queers. .... ALSO ACTUALLY PART OF THE PLAY.

[identity profile] julietveiled.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
XD Okay, go read this play somewhere... You'll find it interesting, at least. I think it's fantastic, I think the structure of it is very very very interesting and it's very well-crafted, and I think the message is extremely pro-Christian (and anti-intolerance) and as my teacher pointed out, it's not like it's going to win over any new thinkers or persuade anyone to really change their point of view, it's very much preaching to the converted as it were, but dramatically it's still an interesting play and it's got its humor, too. Actually, my homework this week is to find the Christian protestors' point of view on it, which includes such tidbits as "he play, by homosexual writer Terrence McNally, presents Jesus as a hard-drinking, promiscuous, swearing homosexual who is crucified for being 'King of the Queers' after being betrayed by Judas, who is cast as his lover. "

"I could hardly believe how offensive, insulting, crass and disgusting it was as well."

"But offending me is one thing. Offending Almighty God is quite another."

God gets pissed when boys kiss boys. WATCH OUT, SAGRAMORE.

"The play portrays Jesus (Joshua in the play) as a promiscuous homosexual, in more ways than I really want to go into just now. "

OH PLEASE DO.

"Which brings me to the actors themselves. They cannot distance themselves from the characters they have played or from the play itself, and the stain of the sin of blasphemy clings to all of them."

Damn. If that's what happens when you act, I'm black, blonde, 5 years old, 50, a bird, a panther, a man, a witch, and fo shizzle am I a sinner, cause writing plays about serenely perfect people is pretty pointless.

"The fact is, this is a play which was written, not out of love as is claimed, but out of blind, ignorant, obsessive hatred for the Christian faith in general and its condemnation of homosexual activity very much in particular."

HAHAHA. That's such a lie.

It's the least hateful play you can imagine. It is, in fact, in my mind, a remarkably well-balanced mixture of what many would indeed find offensive (besides Teh Gay there's use of foul language and a couple of the Christ character's miracles don't work, which I find the oddest thing in the world for these people to harp on, but this guy totally does, like as much as he does about the Virgin Mary being a lush, which, REALLY? get your priorities straight y'all) and this very very -- positive message of love and tolerance and the idea that we are all God's children, that we are all loved and deserving of love.

And speaking as a non-Christian, I would like to believe that there is no message more Christian than that.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, man, I do want to read that. I love Terrence McNally's theology, it's so interesting and slant-sad, I'm really interested.

Christian reviewers are funny. I point and laugh at them because they are threatened by works of fiction. wtf.

[identity profile] julietveiled.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Right?! It's just -- you just have to kind of laugh and laugh because otherwise you'd be banging your head on walls, how is this text, these black inky marks on a small piece of paper, this book or this play or this whatever, in any way a threat to you, your obviously well-fortified faith, or the soul of the world which you clearly enjoy having be fairly sinful as it gives you something to protest?!

People can be infuriating and silly, so I laugh. I find it interesting, now I come to think of it, that my reaction to people who get offended like this over plays, etc., is exactly the same as my reaction to people who are stupid online.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I just. I don't know how to argue, because I just think it's so closed off to new things. I mean, I consider myself a fairly religious person, and I like to learn about other ways that people view Jesus. I think it's really interesting. And when I don't agree, I don't agree, you know? I don't feel the need to make a protest or anything. I don't need to tell the other person (or film or play or song) that s/he/it is wrong, because I know what I believe and I'm fine with that. And it's really purely individual what they believe.

But I also don't believe in seeking converts, so this could maybe be the root of the issue in a way.

[identity profile] holyschist.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, but have you seen the paintings in New Life Church? I'm trying to find them online and failing, but GOOD GOD.

Blood does spurt if it's a major artery--like the ones in the neck. But I doubt the ones in hands and feet would.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
What what what is this?

I know! But these were for the nails on the cross. I mean, you hammer a nail into a palm, it's not going to have this SPLORT effect and cover the nailer's face with blood.

[identity profile] julietveiled.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Unless it is magical Jesus Blood(tm). Now with special new-&-improved splorting effects!!!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I am making dubious faces.

It's not awful, it just. There are some moments when I think that 1. less realism would be very helpful to their cause and 2. more realism would be very helpful to their cause.

it sounds terribly earnest!

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fair.

[identity profile] josiana.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
;__; Alas. I've always wanted to see that movie, but haven't ever been able to find a copy at the rental place. It sounds quite amusing, though.

And I hope your feet don't get gangrenous. DDDDDDDD:

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It is loony.

Dani claims that will happen. I have my doubts.

[identity profile] josiana.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
:D

I suppose it could go either way, but still. Your poor feet. D:

They'll cope. XD
