"You Think I'm Pretty Without Any Make-up On..."

Soooo at my one client's house the t.v. was on, and there was an ad going for some weight-loss programme. It started out fairly inoffensively: middle-aged, stocky woman going "yay now I am not quite as heavy I can do more!" which is a reasonable approach, really; and the fact that she wasn't skinny made it seem much more like a "I'm just wanting to be healthier, this isn't about the beauty standard" kind of thing. So far so good.

And then the last line of the commercial is her saying "Thank you [name of product] for letting me be pretty one last time".

What. the actual fuck.

So yeah, I thought you all might like to know what's wrong with the world.

Ffffffffffffffffffffffff

Also, "one last time"? Way to be ominous.

Seriously. Pretty before I PAINT MY BODY WITH THE BLOOD OF MY ENEMIES AND SEW THEIR HAIR INTO MY SCALP.

Weirdly, I believe that is Carrie Fisher, and I don't get the "one last time" at all. As if she has no more chances left? Er...

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
It is so stupid and does not make any sense. D:

It is Carrie Fisher and I believe she's likely referring to the idea that if not for [product], she would never have done this. I also believe she's referring to the fact that she was a Sci-Fi pin-up 35 years ago and is still held to that image. Which really doesn't make things better, but context can help, occasionally.

I do find it extra-strange, though, since I'm pretty sure she has spoken about the pressures to be even thinner when she was in Star Wars and how insane that wa (especially for the metal bikini/Jabba the Hut scene), so she might have spoken more carefully. Then again, she doesn't seem to be one who is big on carefully screening her words.

Maybe she is a zombie. D:

But seriously that is so creepy and insidious and wtf.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
>_> Then she can be pretty for-ever, she's undead, she isn't going to keel over and die to-morrow or something.

SO WRONG.

I saw that commercial about five times in three hours of TV-watching yesterday, and was also furious at the bit about "I can wear colors again! I don't have to wear black all the time!"

FAT PEOPLE CAN WEAR COLORS TOO, I PROMISE. THERE IS NOT A LAW.

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
SERIOUSLY. I was like, SO SORRY, T.V. PEOPLE, I am fat and I wear ALL THE PRETTY COLOURS I WANT. SO THERE. Arghhhh.

[identity profile] custardpringle.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
but don't you know fat people are supposed to make themselves as near to invisible as possible, UGH SOUJIN WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING

[identity profile] rainbowjehan.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I AM NOT VERY GOOD AT BEING FAT, CLEARLY.
