"Into the Woods, It's Not Too Late..."
Jan. 22nd, 2004 12:10 amRENT bwahaha spiffy good *choke*!
Warning: Here there be squeeing and excessive fangirliness.
That said, Collins! *_* He was fabulous. He was incredibly sweet and he had his greatcoat (!!11!!!one!1!) and a wonderful voice. Guuh. And he and Angel were the darlingest thing. And when he threw his sleeve across the stage... This boy was absolutely perfect. Yisyis. I called him Colline the whole way through by mistake. "I'll Cover You Reprise" was a thing of beauty and tragic-ness.
Angel was also wonderful. I think that Angel was the best actor, and his actor's name was Damien Smith, which had my Feuilly chattering in my head excitedly. When Collins was carrying Angel around and he kept coughing, it was incredibly sad. And yis, Soujin cried the entire way through the second act. Entire way through. But quietly.
I shall go off-topic for a moment and say that someone behind us was guffawing loudly at anything amusing in a 'Ha ha harrrrr' way. It was annoying. He also did it at every panty flash. And he mooed when Maureen entreated us so. Loudly. And someone else was singing behind us.
Back on topic. Roger was okay. He was good, and he looked a bit like Johnny Depp, but he didn't hold notes very long at all, and he sounded a little clipped in "Light the Candle" and "Another Day". He also sang veryveryvery loudly, to the boy where it hurt. But he had a very nice voice, and "One Song Glory" was brilliant.
Mark was fabulous. He had dorky glasses that were Quite Spiffy, and a long scarf, and ran all over the stage. He was pure dead magic in "What You Own", and elsewhere.
Maureen was slightly intimidating... but she and Joanne were great together. And "The Tango Maureen" rocked. If I actually had a chance of being in RENT, my ideal role would be Joanne.
Mimi was not overly notable except in "Without You", and in "Light the Candle" she hit the wrong note very obviously, and it was wince-worthy. But she was quite splendid in "Without You". She sang too loudly in "Out Tonight" and one couldn't really understand any of what she was saying.
Benny was a good singer, but since most of his songs had Collins in them, Soujin must ashamedly say she wasn't paying particular attention to him.
Paul and Gordon were lovely. They did not come in much, of course, but nonetheless they were lovely.
And Collins was brilliant. He was Collins. He was darling and a wonderful singer and a wonderful character and a wonderful actor and had dreadlocks in a ponytail and was wicked demmed. And I knew him the instant he came on because he was wearing a long coat like Nikki's, and he was Collins.
The second act was also better than the first act. The actors starting singing a little more quietly, and it was easier to understand them, and all the deep sad meaningful songs came in and it was just better. If only Collins and Angel had been happy as in the first.
