I want to rewrite An American in Paris with Les Mis characters.

Milo would be [livejournal.com profile] reincineir's Julien Enjolras.
Lise would be [livejournal.com profile] ladybretagne's Feuilly.
Adam would be [livejournal.com profile] mhari's Francois Grantaire.
Jerry would be [livejournal.com profile] rainbowjehan's Martin Courfeyrac.
Henri would be [someone]'s Bahorel. Whosoever has an easily amused Bahorel.

I can see it all now. I utterly can. Except that Milo... wouldn't really let Jerry go... x_x Not if s/he was Julien.

I can see it though!

Augh. I loathe Gene Kelly. Fred Astaire is so much better. Even my father agrees.

Julien would like to know who this 'Milo' is, and in what way 'Milo' dares to be Like Him.

But... but... Gene Kelly was in the chorus of Mary Martin's first Broadway show! And he co-starred with Judy Garland! She even got him his first movie job!

...not that I've seen Fred Astaire in much, of course. :)

Can't comment on your American in Paris cast, as I saw that movie once many years ago and can't remember a thing about it. But the thought of happy dancing Mizzies is quite amusing.

*apologises, then* I've seen lots and lots of Gene Kelly things, and lots and lots of Fred Astaire, and I always preferred Astaire. But... whatever...

It highly amuses me. *_*

Better? He's not better. He has a completely different style. Kelly is athletic and Astaire is refined.

Maybe you like refined fellows more than jock guys, in which case yes, I can see it, but do take into account that you're saying the equivalent of "Hemingway is better than Faulkner" when their styles are so diametrically opposed they're not in competition in the least.

Mind you, I like numbers in The Bandwagon about as much as the ones in Singin' in the Rain or even An American in Paris. Plot? They're MGM musicals. Plot is not mandatory.

Also, in most of the roles Kelly played opposite Sinatra, their relationships were much slashier than any Astaire movie I can recall. But maybe that's just me.

I'm sorry. I just saw Gene Kelly tap-dancing and heard him sing, and found I prefer Astaire's tap and singing. *apologises* I didn't mean to offend.

I'm not offended, hon. I'm just defensive.

Of course, Ginger Rogers could do everything Fred did forward, backward and in high heels, so there.

Although really my favorite MGM star is Cyd Charisse.

Ginger Rogers is fabulous. I've never like any of his other dance parters half so much. She's brilliant. *loves her*

I don't really know Cyd Charisse..
