At this point, Soujin, having waved good-bye to everyone, put up the necessary posts in the respective communities, bowed her way out of having to deal with most of everything, and generally tied off her ante-vacation loose ends, ought by all rights to be in bed, dreaming fanciful dreams and waiting for her alarum to go off and wake her bright and early and ready to hop into the car.
But she's not.
Why not?
Well, mainly it seems to be the coughing. She really can't do a damned thing about it. The real difficulty lies primarily in the fact that not only can't she sleep with a cough like this, but, well. *apologetic grimace* She's just recovered from a bout of coughing so severe that she nearly vomited, and was seized with a very unfortunate gagging reflex that has caused her to emerge rather weak and in pain.
She wonders if now is the time to waken her poor mother, who is likely to get little sleep at all upon this journey, and certainly must grasp longingly to these few brief hours of slumber here, in her own (that's the mother's) own bed, in her own (still the Mum's) house. Mum has insomnia that's difficult to bear up under at the best of times, and under such wretched conditions, she's sure to prize what little allowance of rest will be granted her. It is, then, perhaps not an admirable solution, this idea of Soujin's to shake her mother back into painful reality and announce that she (that's the Soujin this time) is having a medical emergency of sorts; but without the emergency part, you will understand.
Tea has not aided. Diet root beer has failed. Chewing gum, drinking water, taking sinus medications, speaking in a soothing voice; all these remedies have remained unsuccessful in Soujin's hour of need.
Well, damn it all. What in hell am I going to do about my consumption, then?
