-_- Our family situation is mad.

The folks left yesterday; to-night, Melinda (sister no. 2) is coming to visit for three days. If she steals my toothpaste again, I shall never forgive her. It is absolutely unfair.

We had library work to-day, because my flu is apparently not at all serious and no worse than feeling rather ill, so hurrahs. Yes. And I got out the Twenty-Thousand Leagues movie, because of this article, and because the first time I saw it, I hadn't read much of the book yet, so I wasn't able to experience the full measure of pain. *g*

Also got out Lieutenant Hornblower with Gregory Peck, because have got a weird sense of humour.

Finished Mrs. Dalloway. So much love. So, so much. I feel so awful for Peter, though, because things never got really right for him; and I feel bad for Richard, too, though I love him because of his flowers and thinking about the state of the world and wanting to tell Clarissa he loved her and not being able to. Love.

While at library, was shelving; found books by a Brendan Joyce and misread them as having been written by Ben Joyce. Clearly Mysterious Island having dreadful effect.

Also! I've not spoken to Waen of Mysterious Island since she said it was her Orlando, but I think she's coming 'round as a result. She asked me to-day if I'd write her an Ayrton/Bob Harvey fic. ^______^ Yes. I think it may be all right to like it again now, but slowly. Eeee!

So, yes, despite crazy mad family and having tortilla soup for dinner, it is a very nice day.

From what I've read, the Twenty-Thousand Leagues movie sounds absolutely unbearable. I think I shall have to skip that one--I couldn't endure the departure from canon.

However, it's lovely that your situations are all improving -- I'm glad that flu is dying down. =)

I'm a huge fan of the book, and I find the movie excellent. The overemphasis of Ned Land is pretty irritating, but James Mason is a fantastic Nemo. Even if the fact that he's British is a bit heavy on the irony. ;)

Now, every other 20K movie I've seen is horribly far from canon and just horrible in general. If nothing else, at least the Disney version doesn't add a female love interest...

*points at comment below* The utter abandonment of canon bothers me a little, but I don't absolutely hate it or anything. I've watched it twice, if that matters. And James Mason is extremely good. ^_^ He amuses me. I didn't assume he was British, however--I was thinking Polish. The men who attack him seem as though they're wearing British uniforms (albeit anachronistic ones), so I sort of assumed he wasn't. The real thing, though, is that Ned Land is such a wonderful character in the book--he's so serious and important and listless when he's kept from openness--and one doesn't have any of that in the movie.

On a far different note, OMGWTF there are other movies? *spazzes* Must get! Love interests! Heee! ^__^

...Er. Yes. Watching bad adaptations is one of my hobbies.

I think it is. I do not speak for the world, of course, but Ned Land is the main character and I only watch it for James Mason, as he is rather a good Nemo as Nemos go, and for Peter Lorre, because he is one of my favourite actors. Ned Land (Kirk Douglas) is annoying. Also, he drinks Nemo's specimens. *g* The pet seal, however, is rather fun, if one can get past the idea of Nemo naming anything 'Esmie'.

^_^ Thank you! I think the flu has vanished almost entirely, which I much pleased of, since Viljaumur had it too, and had to stay home from school.
