God, I feel so much in love with the world to-day. I love everything so much.
Notre-Dame de Paris is a wonderful book, too. I remember the Cour de Miracles from watching the animated film, but I can't remember if Gringoire was in it. I shall have to rent it, for my silly, Soujinish pleasure.

Date: 2004-12-03 05:59 am (UTC)I've never actually seen the Disney movie -- it was on in the background once at a sleepover or something, but I wasn't paying attention and also it was way long ago -- and I'm sort of afraid to. O_o

Date: 2004-12-03 07:07 pm (UTC)Heh. Mum says I'll hate it because it won't end the same way. But I say unto ye, I have survived many Les Miserables adaptions, and twice that number of Jekyll&Hydes, and I do this sort of thing as an extreme sport. So I shall see it anyway.

Oh, and in the Disney one? Phoebus is the hero. And he and Esmeralda live happily ever after, as does Quasimodo. And there's a sequel, which I fear too much to watch.

Date: 2004-12-05 03:26 pm (UTC)And yeah, what's the point of adapting a story if you're going to adapt it out of existence? I live in fear that Disney will attempt Les Mis. Probably the best Victor Hugo book for Disney would be Toilers of the Sea - all that potential for happy sea animal sidekicks! And Evil Mr. Octopus! And Deruchette would be right there beside Gilliatt!
