Hola, me amigos! Gott kvold! Skal!

In other news, there is a RENT rpg opening on GreatestJournal. Those of you who have time, go ye and join. It's here, and needs members.

Stoneybridge suitably mad. We put up the Christmas tree and I, typically, smashed an ornament by mistake. >_> However, I went and visited Charlie and we talked about Harry and what a nice fellow he was and Charlie was absolutely so sweet that I hugged him, and he glowered at me. *g* Then I went to see Gladys, and even got in a visit with Anna towards the end of the day. Alberta did not get angry with me; Janet shouted, but Janet always shouts (she upset Gladys); and Maria was told me I was an idiot, but I, in a totally unexpected burst of something resembling courage, told her that I was very sorry, but she had to be quiet and stop disrupting the group or she would have to leave. Unfortunately, she opted for leaving.

Anna is up, seeming mainly recovered from her stroke. Alberta is up, because she had a good time to-day. Charlie is, understandably, down, but I think he'll be better later on. It's okay. Marcie was good, as always; Grandma Jennie was up up up because she got a visit and seems to be feeling a lot better now. Verna is up because she doesn't need her wheelchair any more. Malcolm is down; his wheelchair fell apart and I couldn't fix it and nurses wouldn't listen to me, which of course made me panic like mad. Mary is down.

Ah, the nursing home NASDAQ. >_> Criminally fun, terminally ill, and scary as hell. I didn't just say that.

Notre-Dame de Paris is still a wonderful book. But SPOILERS I can't believe he killed Jehan. Wah. Jehan was stupid and cute. END SPOILERS

It must come with the name. Jehans are fated to die. *sighs*

It made me feel all sick to my stomach. >_< He laughed. He 'laughed like a sixteen year old boy'. Wah. I know he was annoying and almost as bad as Phoebus, in his own way, but he was cute, too. He didn't need to die like that. *is pathetic*

I do need a NDdP icon.

I have made many, but they are musical!icons and you should wait until you've watched the musical before taking. ^^

Aw, really? He killed Jehan? I started reading that but then I got bored and stopped. But I always had the little fic idea that Jehan (Prouvaire) read it and was so taken with just how daring Jehan in it was that he took it as a nickname (of course, NDdP-Jehan may have gotten less annoyingly cute and more obnoxious as the book went on... I didn't get very far ^^;). I think the time periods wouldn't work out, though. =\

NDDP was published in 1831, I think. So he could have have read it for a year at least.

But he was Jehan when Marius met him, which was in... um... before that. ^^; I'm pretty sure, anyway.

Right, there's that.

Is it just me, or is the pronunciation difference between "Jean" and "Jehan" ridiculously small and pointless?

Actually, about how you pronounce the names (bear with me, I know I'm a geek when it comes to languages):
The difference between "Jean" and "Jehan" may actually be a tiny bit bigger than it may look.
"Jean" is pronounced 'normally', it has only one syllable in it (as a Finn, it's very hard for me to explain it so that also English speakers understand it) but it's the normal French word.
Whereas "Jehan" has two syllables: Je-an (the 'h' is presumably silent and the 'an' is a nasal sound).

At least that was what my two French teachers said when I posed the question to them some years ago. I can't be sure, though, how they would have pronounced those names in the 19th century, much less in the 15th century...

See, I told you I'm a weird geek.

And when not enunciated, it's a ridiculously small and generally pointless difference. But it's Prouvaire. We wouldn't love him otherwise :)

Oooh, nifty French lesson! I didn't know that! I've actually been pronouncing 'Jehan' as 'Jay-hahn' for the past two years because I can't be buggered to say it correctly.

Yeah, I know the feeling! Trust monsieur Hugo to name his characters so that no-one outside France can pronounce their names...
But at least he tells us the character's full name whenever his first name is Jean (Jean Valjean, Jean Prouvaire) so we can assume that no other character was named Jean. Had he named, for example Enjolras, or Combeferre Jean, I'm sure he would have told it as well. Right? :-p

Right. :D

The trouble with NDdP is that everyone has the same first name and about three surnames, so one can't tell if it's one person or three, and therefore gets them mixed up nigh well constantly.

Oh, it is, but what else did you expect from Prouvaire?

'It's "Galinda", not "Glinda".'

Damn, I just compared Prouvaire to the sparkly bitch of the north. I'm sorry, Jehan.

It's not really heinous unless you start saying things like "It's 'Jehan' with a 'juh'" and "None of the other Amis have trouble pronouncing my name".

Then, of course, Enjolras would get all huffy. "Well, maybe the soul purpose of their life isn't pronouncing your PRECIOUS name!"

Really! Aww, it's not really boring, not once you make it past A Bird's Eye View of Paris.

Also, that is an adorable plotbunny. Ehee. ^_^

Unfortunately, Jehan is a brat by the time he dies. He deserves to be smacked. However, he doesn't deserve to be swung around in circles and then hurled into a wall of the Notre-Dame. >_>

Jehan in NDdP and Jehan in LM are twins. Paralell universe twins. They're pretty much opposites. Jehan from NDdP is LM Jehan's evil twin.
