*dies*
The first day of school is cancelled--and, indeed, school is cancelled until Tuesday--on account of too many last-minute harvests to put up. We're doing corn again to-day, and Da's harvesting and roasting the over-dried tomatoes, and the peaches and raspberries simply will not stop! So we are to be quite busy instead.
The Granny Smith and Red Delicious apples will be ready soon, and Waen says the Asian pears are ripening. Of course we dug all the potatoes, but there are still some beans left to pick.
...And the corn is still going strong.
It's the rain. It wouldn't go so well without the rain. I feel rather distinctly guilty.
Also,
erinpuff, how did you manage to fit so much music onto two CDs? Eeeewow. ^____^ Am going to play them now!
ZARA IN TWO WEEKS (almost). EEEEEEEEEEEE.

Date: 2005-09-01 09:12 pm (UTC)Well, we have to do one-hundred and eighty days of school, so we can begin whenever we like, really, we just have to get in those one-hundred and eighty days before summer. So usually we begin the first of September, but now with the harvest, we have to bring it in first, it's more important, so we do that instead of school. We can wait school for a little while. So that's that bit.
And we just decide what we want to study and tell Mum and Da', and set up a curriculum and schedule with them (this year we're doing, by choice, algebra two, geography, astronomy, Latin, ancient history, English lit, genetics, &c, as well as extra-curric and music/art, for which Waen's composing and my writing counts). Mum teaches maths, and sciences and Latin; Da' teaches history and literature; and we take lessons for the other things. Mum works, of course, so she writes down the assignments for us at the beginning of every week, and we do them.
It's actually much easier. We never have snow days, we work holidays sometimes, and we can count anything educational we do during the summer. My two weeks at Sewanee put me ahead fourteen days already.
There is no allotted time; we're supposed to spend as long as we need; but I prefer the dining room table to the kitchen. The light's better.
