Soujin begs you to excuse her lateness. She was doing impromptu rabbit medical care.
...On the plus side,
TMI TMI YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED TMI BY THE BUCKETLOAD
I got quite a lot of pus out of his abscess, which is good. The top incision was bleeding, so it was harder there, but the bottom one drained fairly well. It was gratifying, in a way, because Mum had been having a lot of trouble draining it earlier. She said I have a good way with patients, too. ^_^ --On the other hand, all this means that the family rabbit is really not going to make it much longer. His eyes are starting to swell shut, his antibiotics aren't helping, and the abscess, as we mentioned, has been lanced. And the smell of infection is very, very strong (incidentally, it is competing with his halitosis).
Medically, this is a fascinating case study.
Emotionally, OH GOD MALCOLM. ;____________________;

Date: 2006-03-02 03:05 am (UTC)Unfortunately, it doesn't look like he'll get better. The vet apparently recommended to Mum that she have him put to sleep. He's about two years old by now, I guess. Maybe one and a half.

Date: 2006-03-02 03:10 am (UTC)There is something really awful about animals that rely on you dying like that - because they are so fully in your power, and when they're smart enough they think you can fix everything, but you can't.
*huuuuuuuuuuuuuugs you*

Date: 2006-03-02 03:15 am (UTC)I know--I know. It's as though Malcolm loves us all and he's been our beautiful little bunny and we just ought to be able to help him.

Date: 2006-03-02 04:33 am (UTC)At least you can say you did all you could; I think that you may yet have the makings of a wonderful surgeon, love.
Because life goes on, and so do you, even when it hurts to.

Yes. Yes, you're right.

Date: 2006-03-02 01:40 pm (UTC)Is okay, though. There's always a point where it's just better to die than to live, and that's about where he is now; and until he is entirely, we'll just love him. We've done this before. (Malcolm is the fifth bunny we've lost.)
