...Someone totalled our car.
We were driving to the opera and got as far as Harrisburg, and the car stalled at a light, so just as Daddy was starting it again a Dodge Ram hit us from behind at high speed. It--the back is destroyed. The crowning glory, however, was this:
Soujin: Ahhghh, the lights aren't working!
Man in Truck: Oh, yeah? Show me.
Soujin: *gets the lights working*
Man in Truck: See? They're working. That one and that one and that one and--okay, that one isn't working, but--
Soujin: The blinkers don't work.
Man in Truck: Whatever, honey. I'm a mechanic. This looks fine.
Soujin: ...Fine? You totalled our car.
Man in Truck: Oh, and YOU KNOW WHAT? YOU SAID YOUR MOM AND SISTER HAD WHIPLASH? LOOK AT THEM MOVING THEIR NECKS AROUND! IF THEY HAD WHIPLASH THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO THAT. I GOT THREE WITNESSES.
Soujin: ...
...
...You know what? We're not having this conversation.
Man in Truck: *walks off*
So. It's--pretty bad. The light that wasn't working actually fell off, and the trunk won't close because it's all bent out of shape. We're taking it into the dealership. Mum and Waen both say they're hurting in the back and neck (I feel like I'm going to throw up, but I think that's more from shock than anything else). The girl who was actually driving the truck apologised a lot and was really genuinely upset and explained that it was her boyfriend's truck--except it turned out the man in the truck who yelled at me wasn't actually her boyfriend; just a random passenger. So we called the insurance company, and the car was okay enough that we could drive it home.
There are little patches of metal missing from the back. They were hanging from the teeth of the truck's grille. It is painful to look at.
Waen's still having hysterics, and Mum is going to lie down (she's supposed to leave for Kentucky for a week to-day). And I am going to go back to bed. This day should definitely not have happened. Luckily, everybody is alive and unhurt. We'll still have to see about the car.
