PERI. ZOMG. I NEEEEEED YOU. My chemistry book does not explain the difference between hybridisation and resonance (which is the question), or even what they are. ;_________; Please help me not fail.

(As a side note, the person who wrote my chemistry book is both stupid and a jerk. He has a whole parenthetical bit about how the environment is stupid and the ozone layer may be breaking down, but hell if it actually matters; environmentalist propaganda is making us actually think it's a problem, when it's not. He then went on to explain that it is only breaking down at the north and south poles, where, and I kid you not, it doesn't matter, because it's too cold there for it to spread. Also there are no people.

He then continues: because of all these stupid ozone lies, the US stopped making CFCs, which are dangerous chemicals that saved lives and made refrigeration possible. Now people in third-world countries will starve to death. Also firefighters will not get to victims in houses soon enough, and operations will be less sterile. We are going against God's wishes. (I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS. HE ACTUALLY SAID ALL THIS STUFF.) PROPAGANDA, he went on to say. AL GORE IS A LEFTIST PROPAGANDA EXTREMIST. He recommended some books that refute all this propaganda. He kept using this word. I did not think it means what he thought it means. One of the books had the subtitle 'Whatever Happened to Common Sense?' (italics mine). I DON'T KNOW. MAYBE YOU KILLED IT.

Dammit, sir. I keep trying to let people know that not all Christians (in fact, a large body of Christians) are totally in denial and/or uneducated jerks. YOU'RE NOT HELPING MY CAUSE.

*flails weakly* It's a good thing he didn't have anything about hybridisation. It probably would have ended with a parenthetical bit about how if God wanted us to use hybrid cars He wouldn't have created oil for us. AUGH.)

Science textbooks get scary when they're written by UberRepublicanChristian types... The biology ones are the worst, but, well, that's to be assumed. How can any person writing a chemistry textbook say that what happens to the environment doesn't matter?

To be fair though, Al Gore is a bit of a leftist propaganda man. But just because something's spread by propaganda doesn't make it automatically false. The biblical epistles were propaganda, weren't they? Commercials for things that are good that say that they are good are propaganda, aren't they? Propaganda doesn't mean lies; it means attention-grabbing media-ish things.

When those types can't be bothered to keep their opinions separate from the things they're supposed to be teaching, yes. >_< And really? I just don't know.

That's--wow. I would never have thought of that, but it's so true. <333333 You're really smart, Tom. ^___^

O__________o And I thought it was bad that the guy who wrote my music history textbook dances awkwardly around all the gay composers' gayness, even when it's definitely relevant to their music. :o

I never took chemistry and so I am useless. :/ I even tried looking them up on Wikipedia, but I got confused almost immediately. In conclusion, your textbook - and its writer - sucks.

HI.

Here are the Wiki entries for resonance and hybridization. Hybridization I've never learned, unfortunately, but resonance is basically drawing more than one Lewis structure to show all the possible bond lengths for a molecule.
