There's really, there's nothing like the smell of manure to let you know you're never going to be able to leave the country. Because walking from the store to the Oriental house to-day I wanted to sing I was so happy, you can tell cow from chicken and it makes the air thick, and it smells like home. And that's how I know I'm a country girl.
Waen and I walked Granddad down to the river (it's not a river, it's a glorified creek) and skipped stones, by which I mean I found good skipping stones, Waen skipped them, and Granddad threw them in to make a splash. He smells like pipe tobacco and Tullahoma. He left his hearing aid out to-day and kept going WHAT every time anyone said anything; I said there were an awful lot of dead things on the road to-day and he said CUFFLINKS?, and everybody was laughing; we went out for lunch and had hamburgers and ice cream and he had a fantastic time, I don't know whether Nana was as happy but Granddad had fun.
Moving to the Oriental house feels like going home again, even though this has been my home for seventeen years and there's never been anything else. Fifty-five acres to ten and it feels like the right place to be, and even though I know it's not necessarily true it feels like once we're there I'll be really happy again. It feels like this is what we need. (Even if it doesn't work for me, I know Mum and Waen will be happy again, and Daddy will be glad to have work to do, and I think that will make me happy in any case.)
At any rate. I wrote my very first fanletter (to Rufus Sewell; I'm putting it in the post to-morrow before I go to work) and to-morrow Zara is coming, and I haven't words to express how wonderful that will be. I keep telling the cats that Saint Francis is coming, and they just look at me funny.
I do love everyone so much. It's just sometimes hard to know.
(Mum bought me a teeny stuffed lamb on Sunday. Her name is Alegga. Waen named her--I just want to make that perfectly clear.)

Especially if I get you comps for my opening nights. :D ...speaking of Broadway. I think I told you that you'll be seeing Jekyll/Hyde as Claudius, but I didn't mention that your Hamlet was in Taboo, the Boy George musical. He played a drag queen.
