In between having nervous breakdowns and taking exams, I watched The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. The story is a little weird, and kind of disjointed (which makes sense, once you know the ending twist, but suffice to say Our Hero is an Unreliable Narrator), but the sets. Oh, man, the sets. They are the most gorgeous sets I have ever seen.

They are surreal and intricate and absolutely fantastic. Whatever genius designed them should be thrilled with himself, because wow.

I also watched The Fly, which made me laugh like a loon and will be part of my research project for Religion and Film. And now I'm done with old, relatively good films for the time being. Back to zombies and crazy rabid porcupine devils!

*clings like a limpet* I hope things will improve.

And I'm glad you enjoyed the sets. :D Expressionism for the win.

If you have never seen it, you shoudl try to track down clips/a bootleg from the musical The Black Rider, directed by Robert Wilson with music by Tom Waits. It's really bizzare, but the production design is kind of like the lovechild of Cabaret and Caligari. Unfortunately I don't think I have a copy, or I'd just send it right to you.

I would love to hear more about this paper. :D

Religion and film is the best class. And my paper is Religious Motifs in Horror Films, as it happens.

I love Caligari so much! (But then, I'm a sucker for an unreliable narrator, so.) Glad you're enjoying the films so far.

Unreliable narrator yay! (I should send you this Gaheris sketch I did where he's working out what he did after he killed Morgause and he makes all kinds of stuff up.)

Also, is your icon canon?
