Saw Sherlock Holmes again. JUST AS GOOD AS LAST TIME. [livejournal.com profile] gileonnen should write me fic, because it is just her kind of movie and just her kind of pairing. STEAMPUNK DETECTIVES WHO ARE TOTALLY MARRIED. SUBTLE MOCKERY OF THE DA VINCI CODE. MARY WATSON NOT GETTING VILIFIED. DRUNKEN FLY-MANIPULATION USING VIOLINS. HELLS TO THE YES.

I just saw it with my parents last night. My mum thinks she was MISLED!!!1!!one! because it wasn't a mystery. Which it so was. I mean, you don't know how he figured it out until the end, but all Sherlock Holmes media is like that. I mean, she didn't look it up at all, all she had was the title which was "Sherlock Holmes" and she got Sherlock Holmes with the exception of the deerstalker and the morphine, it's not like going to "Funny People" and having to watch a film about Adam Sandler...

...okay, I'm done. Parting comments: couldn't they have gotten someone good to play Irene Adler? And what first-year student did they hire to do the French translations?

Oh, and Mary was awesome.

Omg, it was so a mystery! It was actually not too much out of the spirit of Conan Doyle, I thought, since SPOILERS BLAH the magic turns out not to be magic &c and anyway Downey was a very Holmesian Holmes, except that he didn't treat Watson like total ass, which imho is a huge improvement. Anyway. /end rant

I didn't mind McAdams that much. She wasn't amazing, but she was decent. Also, the French translations made me lol because I am a first year student and I knew them without the subtitles, which is probably kind of a red flag there.

She was.

Well, when the policeman flashed his "lol I am part of the secret order lol" tags and then it turned out to be liez? I felt as though that was aimed at the Da Vinci Code.

Holmes/Watson. For reals. Which I do not, do not ship in the books, because I love Mary so much, but in this film? Totally.
