"Let the New Day Dawn..."
Sep. 2nd, 2004 12:02 amThird planting of corn came IN like WHOA and then went out quick. We spent to-day boiling, cutting, and packaging it for storage. Close on twenty quarts we got out of it. V. productive. :) Later on in the season we shall do tomatoes, which is also fun, and later this week, perhaps, peaches for storage. Raspberries are drawing to a close; tomatoes are in; potatoes are flaggin' a bit; beans may be ending; corn is over; squash are thriving; pumpkins are ending; Asian pears are still thriving; apples are coming in quickly.
Lost 1.6 pounds this week.
We went to the Amish Market to-day, which is the happy lovely store we've been going to for the produce we don't grow since forever. We bought nectarines, white and yellow peaches (since our crop failed), and chrysanthemums; watermelons and walnuts and peanuts and an African violet for Waen. And also homemade cookies and a bag of gummi bears for Waen. Gummi bears are the only thing the Amish don't grow or make themselves. ^__^
Unfortunately, there were some humongous tour busses there and loads of stupid people flicking cigarette ash in the corn and generally being in the way. I resent tourists. I am deeply sorry, but I do.
On plus side, toe is healing incredibly quickly. The other two times it took forever, and was so painful for about a week or so. This time, I'm already wearing it open without a bandage, and it doesn't hurt to poke it or bump it. It looks horrid, however. :)
Done with Dracula! I love Van Helsing. And also Mina. I love Mina. I want to hug her and keep her and snuggle her and love her. *is besotted. much*
Now I shall start on To the Lighthouse!
