Oh my God, I was so busy with other things that I forgot to update LJ. >_< Gah.

[livejournal.com profile] sparklychibi, look: [livejournal.com profile] thinkingwhat.

To-morrow I go to Stoneybridge!

Also, the librarian has promised to see about getting me a copy of "The Cat Who Killed Lilian Jackson Braun", an elaborate parody (or so she says.)

Iceland in six days!

Uh, is there ice in Iceland?

Yes, that statement was intended to annoy, but that is one of the most exotic locations to visit on this planet. I hope you will not feel like some anthropologists there, especially when it is eccentric family members you are visiting, although i would think they are cool.

Also, have you ever read anything about or from the Icelandic Epic? My knowledge is limited, mainly to what I learned from Monty Python.

*puts geek glasses on* Pardon me, sir/miss for interrupting, but I can answer your question. Iceland, and the island Greenland as well, are deliberately misleading. When the Vikings were exploring the western oceans, they came upon both of those islands. To keep Iceland, a beautiful island, to themselves, they called it Iceland to give the idea that it was nothing but a frozen wasteland. The opposite is true for Greenland; it is a frozen wasteland, but it was called Greenland to falsely lead eager explorers and settlers there. There's more to it, but that's all I'm sure of.

Greenland and Iceland: the oldest marketing ploy in history!

Ricard Belzer! I love his humor, especially when he was on Homicide.

Yes, the Vikings were very clever in their marketing schemes. I wonder how well travel agents were paid during that era...

Er, largely what [livejournal.com profile] nurikohime said, although Iceland is extremely cold and I believe we're promised some glaciers. And some volcanoes.

Also, it's not the Icelandic epic. :) It's the Sagas, and no, I'm supposed to have, but I've not yet read them. I had no idea Monty Python mentioned them!

Oh yes, Sagas! But what do you expect from someone as insane as I--she who cannot pronounce the name of the capital of Iceland.

I can pronounce it, but I can't spell it. Alas!

Having teh Uncle who is Icelandic, of course, helps with pronunciation and that sort of thing. :) So I am at somewhat of an advantage.
