psalm_onethirtyone: (Cephalopods Need Heart)
I have been really super anxious lately, and I think it's partly because Liz is sick. One of the things that terrifies me the most of anything is when people who are very strong-willed and put together are sick or falling apart and I can't do anything about it, especially if they're people who usually take care of me. The idea that something is wrong and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it is really scary to me. And Liz is definitely that type of person, but her arthritis has been terrible lately, and you can see it in the way she walks and moves, and whenever I'm around her I basically want to throw up because it makes me feel so weird and hurty.

Have also been having a lot of vertigo/dizziness/constant headaches again, which I think might be from not taking my Depakote--so, after approximately three weeks off it, I am back on again. I don't really know.

On the plus side, Free Comics Day was fun! I got Amazing Spider-Man (two of them), Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man (lots of Iron Man), and a bunch of less mainstream comics--two Owly and Friends!, Mouse Guard, Haunt, Chew, two fairy-tale comics, a supernatural Western, and a teeny one by a local artist called Swell Tales from the Sea, which he signed and also drew me a picture of a cat with a jellyfish on its head. I also bought (for fifty cents each!) four old comics, including a Marvel holiday special from 1996, an old issue of Amazing Spider-Man featuring A Night Out With Wolverine (which was why I got it, because lawl), a 1996 issue of Professor Xavier and the X-Men, and a Star Trek TOS/X-Men crossover that is AMAZING in its silliness. So that was really good!

And then I came back from that and finished my paper. It is really, really terrible, but at least it's done; to-morrow I'm going to try to pack everything I won't need during finals week and thus be a bit more prepared for home. I'm also starting [livejournal.com profile] mhari's-house-countdown.

Also, it's really, really hot here, and I am not okay with that.

>___< [livejournal.com profile] petronelle just introduced me to [livejournal.com profile] rubynye's Star Trek/tentacles/Chekov/Sulu fics. Now how am I supposed to finish my essay about women's religious activities in Islam and Africa?

(Goddamn my xenophilia kink. Damn it.)
psalm_onethirtyone: (Dye My Eyes and Call Me Pretty)
Here are some great links that I found to-day, and by "found" I mean "picked up off Go Fug Yourself". But hey. They're pretty rad.

A to Z, which is hilarious. It's drawings from A to Z of random nerdy stuff. Many Star Trek and Marvel references. Yessss.

Heartwarming father-daughter times! [livejournal.com profile] coffeeandpoly is very fond of this one. This is your Faith in Humanity link.

Worst 13 songs recorded by professional athletes. This delights me. A great, great deal.

Finally, here is something that happened to me to-day. I bought some stuff that I didn't have money for, so Matt paid for it with his credit card. Then when I renewed my med scrip I withdrew money and paid him back; about fifteen dollars. Then we went to the choir concert, and they asked for donations, but I had no money again. Obviously.

And then this conversation took place:

Matt: Does anyone have three dollars I can borrow?
Everyone: Nope.
Me: No, but--Matt, why don't you have any money? I gave you money!
Matt: Oh, well, I donated it.
Me: ...
Me: *gets up, goes over to him, and kisses him*
Everyone: ...
Matt: ...
Phil: Did you--did you just get kissed by a lesbian?
Me: He deserved it!
Phil: Oh, my God.

It’s a little hard to sum up everything that’s going on right now, but I can give it a good try, or at least make a bulletpoint list of the important items, which may work just as well.

--My granddad will probably be dead within the next month. We thought it would be more than that, but he’s sicker than everyone thought. He’s in hospice care, and I know they are going to make him as comfortable as a person can be until he dies. It really is the dying that’s harder than the death--if I thought he would live the same amount of time and die on the same day but without any of the pain I think it would be almost easy to acknowledge. It’s just that he hurts so much, and all the time.

--The good news is that that’s the only really bad news. Otherwise, Christmas was kind of quiet. Will has decided he wants to be a dentist, which is really weird to me, but he’s got two more years before he’s even in college, so. I just find the dentist part surreal, since Will is a very, very handsome boy who keeps a coffin in his room and plays guitar in a rock band.

--I got my ears pierced as a present to me, which is sort of exciting. I have little stars in my ears! It only hurt a lot! I am totally going to forget to turn them every night, and I am going to rely on [livejournal.com profile] the_chloroplast to help me know how to do this right.

--Sherlock Holmes was utterly crazy and totally wonderful, and I loved it. Also, Maria has a celebrity crush on Robert Downey Jr., which is really really funny. I think we’re going to watch it again on New Year’s unless there is something better coming out, which I doubt.

--We watched the Star Trek episode where Kirk gets body switched with Dr. Lester last night, and somehow I’ve promised to write Maria Spock/Kirkette. That episode is just crazy, though, because it’s the most incredibly brilliant plot idea and they totally didn’t realise what they had in their hands, I think. The mutiny aspects are played up and the absolutely gorgeous unspoken Kirk-Spock interaction is just treated as mundane, which is really isn’t. Also the loyalty of the crew to Kirk, and also how badass Kirk is as a woman--a lot more badass than he is as a man, actually, but it’s really cool. I can also see how the episode could be perceived as incredibly misogynistic, and I was wondering where anybody else has seen it--particularly [livejournal.com profile] greyswandir. Because I want to know what other people got out of it. But I really loved it, and now I owe Maria fic, which is terrible, and it is going to be terrible.

--I’m going to post my Yuletide fic here as soon as I can, but I’m really reassured because my recipient liked it a lot, and that makes me feel really good. I was hoping she would. >_> I might actually creep on her and friend her after the reveal. I wonder if that’s bad manners.

--I also wrote Galahad/Sagramore, for some reason, but I’m not actually planning to post that unless there is some demand for baffling religious imagery and Galahad’s extremely weird relationships with people.

--I’m actually writing all this at two-thirty in the morning, even though I’m posting it now. There are kittens scratching on my door. I am going to kill them. Mabon walked through my paint to-day while I was working in my crafting area, and the Tribble is the cutest, cuddliest looking poof of fur, but when you try to pet her she glares at you and walks away.

--It's no longer two-thirty in the morning, and I have discovered, on the way to the library, that my car's speedometre and odometre no longer work. Also, he does not want to shift into first gear, and is making a very weird dripping noise when I drive. O_o This is really not the time, Car. Much as ilu.

--I swear to God I’m working on people’s Twelfth Night stuff!

--I am still on dialup and do not dare to try to inspect what has been going on in my flist during my absence, so you tell me! How was your holidays? My hopes are for the best--although it’s freezing, there is an almost full moon outside, and it is very beautiful

1. I watched the DS9 episode [livejournal.com profile] erinpuff sent me. Oh Mr. Siddig. I love you SO much I can't stand it. It's just not fair for a man to be that inhumanly attractive, akfjsafjs. Also adorkable, I mean. Honestly. A young beardless Alexander Siddig playing a doctor playing JAMES BOND oh dear god I love him so much. And then at the end Qarak's all, "so I suppose you're going to be putting away this fantasy" and he's all "HELL NO". oh man. I love him so much it's not even funny.

2. I have CSI season three! and these are my last three days at home before adirondacks+school. So I have nineteen episodes to watch before Friday. CAN I DO IT? probably. Expect me to get nothing done, I will be camped in my room with Gary Dourdan and Jorja Fox for the next seventeen hours. Oh God Mr. Dourdan dreadlocked his afro, it is ridiculously cute ARGH. Why is Television turning me straight?

...I think that's my new conspiracy. MOTHERS, TELL YOUR DAUGHTERS. Corruption and filth and adorable male leads! Television will corrupt the minds of young bisexuals! Idek.

Maria: So it's kind of a weird episode, right, there are all these planetary ambassadors and some of them are really disturbing.
Soujin: Oh?
Maria: Yeah, this one looks like a pig but with soulless pits where its eyes should be. I think I'll have nightmares about it.
Soujin: Oh, come on, you love pigs. How bad can it OH HOLY JESUS IT'S LIKE LOOKING INTO A BLACK HOLE OF PUPPY MURDERS
Maria: (with her hands over her eyes) I told you so, didn't I.

~

[Spock is basically totally unconcerned that Hyde!Kirk has attempted to rape Yeoman Rand]
Soujin: Spock, you suck.
Maria: He can't help it. Vulcans are desensitised. It happens to them every time they get a firm handshake.

~

LOL FOR-EVER, flist. I cannot stop giggling every time I see this article or references thereto. Unfortunately, I can't make the poll results load on this computer, so someone please tell me whether Sherlock Holmes is gay or not.

If I shipped Spock/McCoy, which I do, I would have to say that Mirror, Mirror is one of the best episodes ever to use in a ship manifesto. "No! We can't leave evil, beardy Spock here to die! I'll save him, even if that means I get stuck in a parallel universe for-ever in which everybody wears sparkly uniforms!" "McCoy, no! We've got to go!" "Not until I save Spock!" [Spock is saved] "Dr., I'm going to mind-meld with you. It will be disturbingly sexy."

Also they're making a Gunsmoke movie. Hold me.

Dear Internets:

To-day we bought a meat grinder. It makes three different sizes of sausage! I am waiting for Maria to put her arm down it by accident, although technically I'm more accident-prone. Also, they would not let me buy explosive varmint cartridges for the .22, even though I asked real nice.

Also, I appear to have written Spock/McCoy (SOMEBODY had to!). It's on my laptop, but I can't go to the library (with the internet) until Friday. Would anyone be willing to beta-read it for me if I send it then? TOS, very short, kind of silly, involves hand-kissing. PG, honest to god.

That is all the news!
Love,
Soujin
psalm_onethirtyone: (Gold-Sun Glory in the Wind)
Hiro is going to be the DEATH OF ME AGH. He keeps trying to climb up my bare legs so he can get cuddles; I've been wearing trousers to-day in self-defence. I can't wait until Ando comes home and he has somebody to play with. He's doing really well! He just really hasn't figured out the whole 'retractable claws' thing and he loves to get into my lap.

Maria and I are taking the Quaker out for a drive to-day, which should be fun--he keeps trying to kill us when we drive with him (two weeks ago he shied at a stop sign and cantered halfway down the wrong side of the road before Maria could get him under control, and I clutched her thigh until my hand hurt but didn't scream, and she told me she was really proud of me for it) (last week he shied at a puddle, he is useless you giez). So that should be nice.

I need to finish my preparations for Maria's graduation party. Yesterday I cleaned the house, which always makes Maggie hate me--she always runs from the place I'm vacuuming to the place I'm about to vacuum, so I chase her around the house essentially and she is not thrilled by that. I bought Maria's cup and I need to go to the store and print out a photo of her so I can draw a helix across her face and leave it on her pillow. Uh. Not that we have a strange sense of humour or anything. Or that we spend hours sometimes reimagining Gunsmoke as Star Trek ("He's dead, Matt. Dammit, I'm a doctor, not a marshal." "Beam us up, Kitty." &c).

We've been doing a lot of planting lately, and I still haven't repotted Mohindar, which I really need to do because he hates his little plastic pot. He gets all cringy and sad in it. On the plus side, the fishies are doing well, and Levin is huge--nearly eight inches long. I'm so proud of him.

We're trying to name the hen with the bad foot--can anybody think of any good (funny or fandomy) names for a lady with crinkled toes? Black Peter has become unrecognisable, but Nellie is getting more playful, and I can't wait for them to go down with the rest of the flock in the long bottom. We have Redjac and Dora and Fidel and Jol down there, as well as two buff hens, another Aracauna, and another Marron.

The weather is finally nice enough to start hanging laundry on the line again! I think we're all glad of this.
psalm_onethirtyone: (Grow a Little Good)
Soon I will be doing a primer on psalms (DON'T SAY A WORD. THAT IS VERY SRS BSNS), but for now I just want you to know that my father thinks I am going to die because I tripped on the sidewalk in the rain yesterday and took all the skin off my knee and part of my leg. He made some reference to 'deadly sidewalk bacteria', I don't even know, anyway so far all it's doing is draining cirrus fluid like a mother and I am kind of regretting the fact that I only took my cute pink Hello Kitty bandaids to Altoona with me. Because they are not really big enough to do anything for this denudation (I took photographs! because I am a person who does things like that).

SO to-morrow I go to Williamsburg. I am allotting myself about fifteen to twenty minutes for getting lost. I am excited, though, I think it will be fun. I know I'm on pediatrics on Friday, but I don't know what I'll be doing the rest of the week. Oh, and Thursday is OMT day, so basically we wander around watching people get therapeutic massage all day long. Maybe they will therapeutically massage me if I ask nicely.

IN THE MEANTIME I would like recommendations for the following:

*Mohindar/Matt
*Mohindar/Sylar
*Spock/Kirk
*Spock/McCoy
*Spock/Kirk/McCoy
*Isaac/Hiro

INDULGE ME. And if you are not familiar with Heroes or Trek, then I demand other fic, specifically Arthurianslash in any form from anyone who dabbles in it.

(I am a little manic to-day. But good! Should I have eggs or leftover chicken for supper?)
psalm_onethirtyone: (Gold-Sun Glory in the Wind)
[The scene: a small farm in central Pennsylvania. Two young women, Soujin and Maria, are standing by the hog pen, having successfully wrestled two large screaming hogs from their pasture in the vegetable garden to the hoghouse two-hundred yards away. Maria is pumping water from the hand pump onto Soujin's head.]

Soujin: Man, having water pumped onto your head like this always makes me kind of feel like a big goddamn super hero.
Maria: [laughs] Which superhero?
Soujin: Uh. Captain Kirk, actually.
Maria: [laughs harder] Captain Kirk?
Soujin: Why, which superhero do you feel like?
Maria: Iron Man.
Soujin: You realise that that is actually even less logical than Captain Kirk, right?
Maria: SO HOW ABOUT THAT HOT CORVETTE IN THE NEW TREK FILM?

[Laughing, the two women go to rip iron fencing out of the ground, their large manly muscles gleaming with sweat. Soujin's short red hair* is attractively tousled, not unlike that of the famous James Tiberius Kirk. Maria appears to have grown a small moustache and goatee.]

[The End]

*I dyed it again! :D :D :D
